5-Day African Safari Itinerary

African Safari Itinerary

Africa changes you forever, like nowhere on earth. Once you have been there, you will never be the same. But how do you begin to describe its magic to someone who has never felt it? How can you explain the fascination of this vast, dusty continent, whose oldest roads are elephant paths? Could it be because Africa is the place of all our beginnings, the cradle of mankind, where our species first stood upright on the savannahs of long ago?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Are you dreaming of an awe-inspiring trip to the vast plains of Africa? With four million animals and 430 species of wildlife, the Serengeti will give you sights and sounds sure to leave memories that will last a lifetime.

He was well educated on the area and created a memorable safari with getting up-close to Africa's majestic animals. Seeing the "Circle of Life" helped us gain an understanding for the true meaning of Africa's wildlife. Our chef, Karim cooked delicious traditional meals each day, highlighting the local cuisine. His cooking abilities are top notch! We will always cherish our time with Ozzy and Karim and highly recommend using Lion King Adventures for your African Safari!

Day 0: Arrival in Arusha

Many international flights take off from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), so this will be the main airport you will probably fly into when planning a safari in Tanzania.

You will be picked up by a driver at the Kilimanjaro airport and taken to your accommodation in Arusha where you will stay overnight.

African Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast at your lodge, you will start your privately guided safari with a short drive to Lake Manyara National Park. This is a relatively small but diverse park, 120km west of Arusha. It is home to thousands of flamingos and over 500 species of other birds. On your exploration of the park, you will see monkeys, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffalos, elephants, leopards, and lions lounging in the shade of the trees. You will enjoy a picnic lunch in the park and after a further afternoon game drive, you will head to your lodge where you can relax, enjoy dinner, and be a spectator of a traditional African show featuring local musicians and dancers.

Day 2: Lake Manyara to Central Serengeti

After breakfast, you will pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and be able to see the breath-taking Ngorongoro Crater. The Serengeti National Park is the largest park in Tanzania with diverse landscapes and habitats, such as grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannah, and mountains. The Serengeti is a habitat with an abundance of wildlife, such as impalas, buffalos, crocodiles, hippos, but it is better known for its great migrating herds of zebras and wildebeests, which in turn, attract predators like leopards, cheetahs, and lions. You may even see the circle of life - lions hunting down a water buffalo or cubs feeding on a zebra caught by the lioness. After an afternoon game drive, you will arrive at your lodge where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Central Serengeti

You will spend a full day exploring The Serengeti National Park, its landscapes and its inhabitants. After an unforgettable day, you will return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

*Interesting Fact: The Serengeti National Park covers 5,700 miles of grassland plains, savanna, forest, and woodlands. The ecosystem is the oldest dated on earth. The wild animals, plants, and waterways are still largely intact as they were over one million years ago.

Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro

After breakfast, you will head out for a game drive through the Serengeti. On this tour, you might be able to spot the “Big Five” – lions, elephants, buffalos, rhinos and leopards – before embarking on your journey to Ngorongoro Crater. The animals roam freely through the unfenced reserves, offering you an uninterrupted game viewing experience. Arriving at the edge of the crater you will have your first glimpse of what awaits you the following day – glistening streams, open grassland and an infinite amount of animals. You will spend the night at a nearby lodge with the orange glow of sunset surrounding you as you drift off to sleep.

Day 5: Ngorongoro to Arusha

Rise and shine! It is an early departure for the steep drive down into the 600m deep volcano, home to a breathtaking range of animals and birds. The collapsed volcano is home to over 25,000 mammals ranging from the “Big Five” and more than 500 species of birds. You will enjoy a picnic lunch once you reach the base (protect your food as the playful monkeys will steal it). After a further afternoon game drive, you will return to Arusha, which marks the end of your safari.

I dreamed of going on an African Safari since I was young. My father lived in Africa during his teen years while my grandfather was stationed in Kenya. Looking through his photos and artifacts was an inspiration and I knew I would be standing here one day, experiencing the beautiful landscapes for myself. When arriving in the Serengeti, I felt the inner peace my father once spoke of and I couldn't stop smiling. The culture and traditions haven't changed since he lived here over 50 years ago! Truly magical to share this connection.
